June 6, 1954

On the same Sunday afternoon, the rookie first baseman hits a two-run home run to help the Boston Red Sox beat Cleveland 7-4 at Fenway Park, then dons a cap and gown and receives his diploma from Boston University in a commencement ceremony at the former Braves Field. Agganis’ teammate Del Wilbur comments, “It’s the first time anyone ever hit a home run at Fenway Park and had to go to Braves Field to celebrate.”
